THE GREATEST DAYS IN AUDIO VIDEO.........ARE NOW!!!!

Dear Folks,

As a huge Movie and Music fan I always lamented one thing...

The greatest equipment was always ridiculously expensive-for example in 1999 the Vidikron Vision One crt projector (based on the Marquee 9500LC) was on sale at Absolute Sounds in London for £60,000...

Now,a projector like the Sony VPL VW520ES comfortably outperforms for 10% of that cost!!

So the high end HAS become affordable-which means people can by using top A.V. receivers and sensibly priced 4K projectors etc..have a Cinema for the price you would have paid for just the projector 16 years ago..Fantastic eh?....

Of course the high end is even higher now in terms of performance and to step the equipment up you can still pay a lot of money BUT the difference is you can get a lot more for your money..

..Of course there is always "cheaper"..i talk not of this,I talk of better quality at every pricepoint..thats the skill of Projectiondreams..no compromise whatever the budget...

How so you ask?...

Its very simple,4K is 4K ..But the larger the screens to be illuminated the brighter the projector needs to be..so the larger rooms need larger screens-and of course these are more expensive..and brighter projectors (also more expensive)...

Its about RETAINING the quality whatever size the room..planning correctly to ensure the screen is bright enough, the projector focused correctly to drag out every last bit of resolution..correct viewing angles and so on....

Its about using ones knowledge to advance the medium and technical "starting points"....

I call therm starting points because ALL technical criteria is there to be,by the skill of the calibrator/installer,improved.

Real skill in Video calibration for example,is knowing what not to change, what that display device does correctly..what it doesnt ..to squeeze that last bit out..this last bit is that extra mile that should be traversed to establish the difference between a decent setup and a great setup..

..Exactly the same with Audio...

One must never under estimate the importance of correct setup..correct setup can ensure that a 50k system well setup outperforms a 100k system poorly setup...

At Projectiondreams,as ISF and THX guys, setup is EVERYTHING for us....the surroundings encapsulate the performance-and should be planned to take account of such...only then can the true synergy between equipment performance and design aesthetic work ...a successful cinema is one in EVERY way.;-)

Of course, this knowledge is essential to ensure that our customers money is well spent -whatever they may choose-very quickly their trust is in us-our passion in ensuring we deliver the results that are then expected, makes sure our customers get the very best for their money ..whatever the budget..

We set the standards that others can only aspire to and to be fair that aspiration can help to make other mediocre companies ultimately reasonably decent..because they copy us..how we work..our process...even down to how we communicate ..some may say its flattering..?-  For myself,im a little despondent that original thought is lacking and uniquety wanting until we have done it first...nevertheless I applaud anyone that tries to be better..

For the customer though, thankfully they want the best, they dont want to be an R & D platform for an embyonic (in terms of knowledge) company  that over charges (not intentionally im sure..) the customer by selling them the wrong equipment or wrong solution for the given task...

I come from an era when one learnt their trade ..when pedigree was everything..when success depended on integrity and knowledge of ones given profession...so of course i lament the "shisters" out there with their two day courses and assumed knowledge in the same way that Elvis or Sinatra would resent a pub singer actually saying he was as good a singer and indeed a viable alternative when he hadnt proven such...:-)

My whole ethos is that Projectiondreams do the best work possible for the given customers budget and what we display in our showrooms and our body of work takes it always out of the hand of the judges and makes Projectiondreams the clear choice for the discerning..however much they have to spend...

Best Regards,
Vincent Charles Myers M.D.

SAVE YOURSELF A FORTUNE IN AUDIO VIDEO..ANYONE CONSIDERING A CINEMA..YOU MUST READ THIS...!!!!

Dear Folks,

Projectiondreams have traded for 15 years..7 years as the top install company in Europe-based in Portugal with two large showrooms in Almancil and Luz.

We are the ONLY company in Portugal with TWO fully functioning  real THX/DOLBY ATMOS Cinemas on demonstration.

Now IF you are considering a project you have a variety of choices of company in Portugal and this is where your problems begin...most are antiquated and buy from the same  distributor based in Spain.

Thats why they all offer the same things.Control 4 being a great example..Control 4 is the poor mans Crestron with one major difference..Control 4 "dealers" are rushed through training-charged through the nose for the priviledge and continually "summoned" in for more training..each time of course the Distributor cash registers KER CHING....

Of course this is where the money is..for the distributor..large margins applied..the dealer is finished before he starts.....

Soon I expect to see the local butcher after having finished his one day training course, selling Control 4 along with the bacon..;-)

These dealers depend heavily on the distributor to "advise" them what products they should be using-all theirs of course..all expensive -most Audio Video lemons -and by the time they hit the customer.. daft money....

Now heres the really funny thing..the distributor in this instance has little real world install experience and of course proposes that which has the greatest margins for them..thats all...NOT WHATS DETERMINED TO BE THE BEST..

Its a con involving limited experience dealers who know no better..

So how do you know these folks?..and you should steer away from them like the plague..because they know not what they do to the level of what they charge..

Well, its simple..these folks are NOT Projectiondreams..

Projectiondreams are their own distributor..for M &K speakers, for Denon CI ,D BOX,Piega,Bitwise etc..etc..,We are the ONLY Audio Video seller in the Algarve allowed to sell Sony professional products..we are one of the very few custom install companies in Europe that writes their own automation programs..completely custom..using Bitwise..something for which we have a world first ...

We custom build our own Cinema chairs and are the ONLY a.v. seller allowed by D BOX in Portugal to be able to put motion products in our own chairs..

We have developed our own "Flush Fit" panel system...  our own star ceilings..and so on...

What does this mean for our customers?

NO dealers in the mix..no extra link in the chain..no inflated costs...

When you deal with Projectiondreams..you come to the source..the innovators..the originators...ISF qualified for 16 years..THX qualified for 7 years...

Go and visit whatever company you like..save us till last...then you will see what we mean...get better service, better knowledge, better results..better aesthetic and technical...and save money..

You will get an Aston Martin for Jaguar money..OR..you could go to the others and pay Aston Martin money for a Lada...the choice is yours....

As of now..we are the ONLY install company in Portugal to publish their prices because we have confidence they are fair....ask yourself why the "others" do not?..ask yourself why some have no showrooms..no pedigree..no quality work to show you...

IF these "others" cannot show  you a Cinema in their showrooms..what does that tell you?

Projectiondreams do get the lions share of the business in Audio Video terms BUT i dont want to lose one job to a lesser purveyor..to a worthy rival..dont mind at all..but Projectiondreams have nobody close to us in Portugal..thats a fact and in no way meant to be ostentatious..I denigrate no one but im proud of my trade..proud of what I have learnt and what has been achieved on behalf of our customers....

Only ONE thing stops Projectiondreams taking every job-and we take most-and thats the good old system of desperate back handers perpetrated by the inept Audio Video sellers...

..What this means is one builder who has always had a nice drink from this "other" wont change because he wont rock the boat..does he care about the finished result for the client..of course not...therefore under these circumstances i urge ALL end customers to doubt what they are told when recommended an Audio Video company ..

Go and find out for yourself..dont pay inflated prices and get a lesser job..come to the experts..Projectiondreams..and see the best....

Best Regards,

P.S..

Heres our Luz Cinema ..the current best in Portugal...

DENON HEOS IS BORN..GOODBYE TO SONOS..THANK GOD...

For some time now the only real game in town if you wanted multi room audio was Sonos-which was decent enough but always lacked any real audio pedigree or the ability because of that to produce a real audiophile sounding product..with Sonos it was thin..tinny..the units looked cheap..

Thankfully,a real audiophile company -Denon-famed for some of the best sounding THX a.v. receivers ever built has entered the mix..and produced a terrific range of products..better sounding, better built..yet similar price to Sonos...

If this was a boxing match then Denon have just scored an easy first round knock out..:-)

Of course,Sonos pepper the globe with clever marketing-the upshot that most folks have heard of them-yet real audiophiles have known for some time how lacking the sound quality is and have opted for more expensive solutions like Cabasse..(which we favoured..)..

But for Projectiondreams its not about clever marketing its about the truth..as enthusiasts first and foremost we ONLY sell that which we believe in and know to perform beyond a certain level...

This is why we have decided to sell Denon HEOS...because its superb..plain and simple..:-)

REVIEW.

We've been living with three of Denon's new speakers for the past two months: the portable Heos 1 with Go Pack, the mid-sized Heos 5, and flagship Heos 7. Ideal for throwing wild house parties.
Also available within the line-up (but sadly not at the time of testing) is the Heos 3, Heos Soundbar, Heos Link Pre-amp and, finally, the Heos Amp (which is designed to help turn any speaker or hi-fi into a wireless zone). All products work on the same amp and connect in the same way.
Ok, so we didn't really have any wild parties, but we've listened to an awful lot of music to help us decide whether the Heos line-up is the perfect speaker setup, deserved of a spot in your living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, or anywhere around the house. Read on for the full ins and outs.
Design
Available in both black and white the Heos 5 and Heos 7, priced £250 and £500 respectively, both share the same horizontal teardrop design. Both are built extremely well with nice attention to detail, well-finished edges and premium quality materials.
The top-of-the-line Heos 7 is wider, boasts a sleek metal strip along the top and has smooth curves in contrast to the Heos 5's angular body. But side-by-side, both look great and catch the eye without being especially ostentatious.

Denon Heos 1

The smallest speaker in the Family, Heos 1, priced £199, still features the angled body design but a robust metal grille replaces the cloth cover of its larger cousins. Squint and you might mistake it for a squished  Sonos  Play 1 – colours, trim and button detailing are remarkably alike – but the optional Go Pack battery does help the Denon stand out for true portability.
Comparatively the Heos 7 is big and designed to be placed prominently to turn heads.
There's a lot to love about the Heos design, which is a relief if you plan to have them dotted around the house, but the teardrop shape isn't necessarily all that convenient when it comes to positioning.
Setup
Connecting the Heos speakers to the network couldn't be easier either. Once the speaker is plugged in and Heos app downloaded to your phone or tablet (iOS or Android) it's simply a case of going to the settings and adding a device.
The onscreen instructions are mercifully straightforward and getting connected to the Heos 7 took a little under three minutes. Without NFC on board the easiest way to connect is using the supplied 3.5mm cable between iPhone and speaker. You can pair everything wirelessly via a network, but it will just take a little longer.

Denon Heos 3

Once one speaker is connected (and you've assigned it a room in the house) adding multiples or additional Heos products is even more straightforward as they talk to each other, sharing their vital settings.
There's no Bluetooth, though, with the exception of the Heos 1 with additional Go Pack battery pack, priced £79. This seamless twist-on battery pack gives up to six hours go-anywhere power and Bluetooth connectivity which is handy. It certainly bumps up the total price, but given it comes with a rubber cover to turn it into a IPX4 splashproof speaker we think it's more than worth the money. Buy a Heos 1 and the Go Pack will cost just £40 which we think is a bargain given the added flexibility.
Going Multiroom
Once all three of our review sample speakers were connected – and the thin blue LED glowed happily on each unit – creating zones was, again, extremely simple. From the Rooms tab in the app it's simply a case of sliding one virtual room onto another.
We experimented with various configurations but found having two zones – "kitchen and living room" and "bedroom"  – worked the best for our personal use. If we did decide to throw caution to the wind and play the same song around the house we just needed to slide the Bedroom speaker onto the existing group.
It would be nice to have the option to save favourite zones, but that's hardly a big deal. If we had 15 speakers dotted around our mansion and wanted to pair Parlour 2 and Billiard Room 1 we'd probably get the butler to do it anyway.

Connectivity & the Heos App

With Spotify, Tunein, Deezer, Napster, Soundcloud, Tidal and Rdio, plus phone, USB, remote music servers and any inputs via the 3.5mm socket, Denon has been more than generous with most major services accounted for.
And making the most of them is pretty straightforward once you learn your way around the app. Along the bottom of the app's main screen there are three tabs: Rooms, Music and Now Playing. Pick a room, then choose your music source and off you go. The Now Playing tab gives basic controls over tracks and individual speaker volume.
We like the ability to play different songs from individual sources on different speakers and from separate devices. You can only do so if you've got multiple music streams yourself – stored music on your phone and a Spotify account for instance – but the flexibility is appreciated.
As with many new wireless speakers the ability to use Spotify Connect will be a big selling point. Once you're signed in the only reason you'll need the Heos app again is to tinker with the speaker zones or tweak the bass/treble. The rest of the time you can just use Spotify as usual.
Unlike some Denon apps of old the Heos is a lesson in simplicity. We're not saying the app wouldn't benefit from a few shorter menu options and button presses here and there, but it's a step up compared to the  Sonos  app, which feels badly in need of an update.
Performance
So how does the Heos system stack up?
The flagship Heos 7 is perfect for larger rooms thanks to the five custom drivers, two passive radiators and five class D amplifiers (as ever Denon doesn't like to disclose size or power). It's relatively big for a wireless speaker but the payoff is a big, bold and lovely sound.
Playing something intricate like The High Road by Riley Walker and the Heos 7 picked out a huge amount of detail in the upright bass and strings while keeping the vocals central to the mix. Pushed a little harder (and louder) with Nas's N.Y. State of Mind it continued to impress and while slightly over emphasising the bass it sounded even better than we'd expected.

Denon Heos 5

The Heos 5 is certainly a step down in quality compared to its big brother, but it's still a super little speaker in its own right. It features two mid-woofers, two tweeters and passive bass radiator, while the active drivers are powered by individual class D amplifiers. How does it compare to the  Sonos  Play 3?..We found the Heos was more fun and offered a brighter, less boxed-in sound.
As for the Heos 1 you get a bi-amped two-way system with custom active EQ and crossover, a custom woofer and tweeter powered by a single two-channel Class D amplifier. The result is another high quality wireless speaker with few rough edges to speak of. Sound is obviously limited by size, but at what we're calling "breakfast volume" it still managed to fill the kitchen with nicely balanced sound as well as irritate the neighbours when played loud and late in the garden. Compared to the  Sonos  Play 1 the Heos 1 has a more youthful sound, but it still can't quite complete. Whatever magic  Sonos  has going on in that box it remains extremely difficult to beat.
Individually all three Heos speakers have a lot to offer, but it's as a multiroom setup they really shine. With almost perfect stereo synchronisation we found having the Heos 7 on in the dining room and Heos 1 in the kitchen created a thoroughly enjoyable all-encompassing sound.
Experimenting with stereo pairing you wouldn't be disappointed with just two Heos 5 speakers in the living room and we look forward to testing out the surround sound capabilities soon with the Heos Soundbar.

Verdict

If you're in the market for an accomplished multiroom audio system that supports the vast majority of current streaming services, is easy to set-up and sounds great, the Denon Heos system could certainly be for you.
The £500 the Heos 7 is a beautiful one-box solution in its own right. Combine that with the flexibility of battery power in the Heos 1 (with Go Pack) and the impressive selection of compatible products capable of transforming your existing stereo into a multiroom zone and few current systems can match it.
The Heos is more
adventurous than the  Sonos  in almost every department if you can cope with the less-than-practical teardrop design then you won't be  disappointed.
